Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • Our easy sherbet punch recipe uses all-natural ingredients, rather than the sugary fruit punch drinks that are often called for. Instead of fake flavors, you’ll enjoy this blend of freshly squeezed orange juice, pomegranate juice, and pineapple juice.
  • This punch recipe is easily scaled to suit your occasion! Instructions for making a pitcher of enough sherbet punch to serve 8 are included below, as well as a single-serve option.
  • You can customize this recipe in so many different ways too. Change up the juices, try a new flavor of sherbet, or garnish your punch bowl with fresh mint and fruit.
  • And for the adults, feel free to spike the sherbet punch with some vodka, tequila, or triple sec!

Use one or more of your favorite sherbet flavors, like raspberry sherbet, lime sherbet, orange sherbet, or the ever-popular rainbow sherbet to make this fizzy, foamy party drink.

Ingredients in Sherbet Punch

  • Fruit Juices – My favorite juices to use for party punch are freshly squeezed orange juice, pineapple juice, and a bit of pomegranate juice for color. If you don’t have pomegranate, cranberry juice works well too.
  • Lemon Lime Soda – Sprite, 7-Up, or any brand of lemon-lime soda pop will work, but be sure not to leave this out. The bubbles in the soda react with the sherbet to create a delicious foam, much like what happens when you make a Coke float or a rootbeer float.
  • Sherbet – I usually go for rainbow sherbet when I’m making this punch for a party, but you can choose a single flavor if you prefer. Storebought sherbet is an easy option, but to make your punch extra special, try one of our homemade sherbet recipes instead.

How to Make The Best Sherbet Punch

These instructions in the recipe card will walk you through the process of making a pitcher of punch (about 1.5 quarts or liters). Measurements for making 1 serving are also in the recipe card below.

Recipe Tips

  • Stir Gently – You want the soda to stay fizzy, so be sure not to stir it up too much.
  • Drink Up! – After the punch has been mixed, it will start to lose its effervescence, so it’s best to serve and enjoy this recipe just after making it. I don’t suggest making sherbet punch ahead of time.
  • To Spike the Punch – Stir in a half cup of your favorite liquor for the full recipe, or an ounce for a single serving cocktail.

Simple Variations

  • Raspberry Sherbet Punch: Use raspberry sherbet and garnish the bowl with fresh berries. This pink punch is perfect for Valentine’s day!
  • Orange Sherbet Punch: Leave out the pomegranate juice and use orange sherbet. For Halloween, garnish with candy eyeballs or spider rings for a spooky setup.
  • Tropical Sherbet Punch: Juice fresh mango and papaya to add to the mixture, or add a bit of coconut water to give your sherbet punch a beachy vibe.

Is Sherbet Punch an Old-Fashioned Drink?

Punches of all types have been enjoyed throughout modern history, but punch with Sherbet was likely first enjoyed in the 1950s when rainbow sherbet was invented and available in supermarkets.

Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions of party punch with sherbet were very popular in the mid-century, and you’ll find similar recipes in old cookbooks and your grandma’s recipe box for sure!

How Much Punch Do I Need For A Large Party?

One batch of this sherbet punch recipe makes approximately 1 1/2 quarts or enough for 8 servings that are 2/3 cup. To Serve 10-15 guests, I suggest doubling the recipe to make 3 quarts. For a larger group of 15-25 guests, triple the sherbet punch recipe.

Can I Make Sherbet Punch with Sorbet?

While you can certainly add sorbet to any punch recipe, it won’t give quite the same effect as sherbet does. The important difference between sherbet and sorbet is that sherbet is made with milk or cream, while sorbet is made from only fruit juice, and is generally dairy-free.

The dairy in the sherbet is what adds the creamy, foamy layer to the top of the punch bowl, so I don’t suggest substituting it with sorbet.
